# Solar system textures

The planetary surface, cloud, night, normal, ocean-mask and ring images in this
directory are by **Solar System Scope / INOVE**, distributed under

- Source and license statement: <https://www.solarsystemscope.com/textures/>
- Original download URLs, actual dimensions and local SHA-256 values:
  [manifest.json](manifest.json)
- Changes: converted to WebP; high-detail cloud, night and lunar maps reduced to
4K; shaders add lighting, bump, atmosphere and artistic cloud detail. The
overview image is a browser render combining these textures with our geometry.
- Preparation script: `scripts/prepare-solar-assets.py` (Python with Pillow and
Windows curl). Original downloads are retained in the ignored output folder.

Some source files named `8k_*` contain 4096-pixel images. The manifest and visible
quality labels use decoded image dimensions. Uranus and Neptune use the available
2K source maps; no higher native detail is claimed.

Three.js and OrbitControls are the repository's existing local r180 vendor files,
under the MIT license included in `assets/vendor/THREE-LICENSE.txt`.
